My future fire fighters
June 17, 2013
fire fighter Quinn
Fire fighter Jack
The boys and I took a walk to the library this afternoon. I had Jack in his stroller and Quinn was pedaling his tricycle. He loved admiring the scenery, bending down (while he's still pedaling, mind you) to notice how fast the back wheels are turning, stopping with no warning whatsoever to check out a wispy, fuzzy dandelion. I have to be on my toes to ensure I don't get side swiped by him!
It has become tradition that once we get to the parking lot of the fire station, Quinn will ride up to the big glass doors to look at the huge fire engines. Today a very kind fire fighter noticed my two boys and I doing just this, and was very nice to open up the doors and let us in (impromptu field trip!)
The boys were both in awe. (It was pretty cool!) Quinn was able to climb up into the engine, and we were also able to hold the equipment (I never realized how darn heavy it all is!). Before heading out, the fireman gave both boys an awesome fireman's hat, badge sticker and a bunch of other goodies. Talk about a jackpot for both of my little boys! For months now, Quinn has been determined that when he grows up he WILL be a construction worker. On the way home, as he was pedaling his trike along the sidewalk, grabbing on to random lilac bush branches as he passed (I'm sure the homeowners would love to see that!), he informed me, 'Mom? I just decided I want to be a fireman when I am big.'
What a fun day with my boys.

Celebrating our last ECFE class
Last Tuesday, May 21, 2013 I took the boys out to celebrate the last day of our spring ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) session. We enjoyed some chicken nuggets, fries and water. It was simple, but so special for the kiddos. {And me, too!} Quinn was practically bouncing all the way to the booth, and was so pleased when I told him he could choose our spot. I never do this sort of thing! We go on 'field' trips often, but I always pack a healthy bag lunch. This was a 'treat.'
On Wednesday (the day after our lunch), it occurred to me that this was Quinn's very last ECFE class. He is registered for Preschool in the Fall, and ECFE is education for young kiddos before Preschool. We have been doing this activity since Quinn was six months old. I have met so many wonderful friends and educators. I have watched Quinn's development and milestones through this experience in the last three years. I almost cried when this dawned on me. I am so glad I gave in to that feeling that we had to celebrate our last day. It's an end of an era, in a way.
...But, with endings come new beginnings. He is going to make such an awesome Preschooler next fall. And I am already looking forward to receiving our new ECFE catalog in the mail so that I can start this special memory for Jack and I, come September!
Memorial Day Weekend 2013
Our family had a great holiday weekend up north at the cabin! It was the first time we have been back since August 2012, and it was a lot of fun! The boys had an absolute ball. They are both on the go, go, go.... From the time they wake up (even if that time is 6am), they want to be loud, play, explore. What better place for little boys to do just that than at the cabin?!
Thanks so much for having us up, Jan and Stan!
We are already looking forward to the next time we can make more memories at the cabin!
